Lucy M E Line specialises in industrial, environment and planning, disciplinary, and criminal matters. Lucy has a particular interest in environmental offences and litigation concerning environmental issues. Lucy also appears at inquests and inquiries. 

Lucy graduated from the University of Tasmania as a University Medallist and was awarded the prize for the Best Graduating Law Student and the Prize for Evidence Law. Lucy went on to complete a Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford (2010 - 2011). Further, having passed the California Bar Exam, Lucy is admitted as an attorney in California. 

Lucy has published broadly on public interest immunity, character evidence in criminal proceedings, pre-trial defence disclosure, prosecutorial duties and evidence law in the Criminal Law Journal, Adelaide Law Review, University of Tasmania Law Review and the Flinders Law Journal. Lucy also edited Degeling and Edelman, Torts in Commercial Law, 2011.

Lucy holds an Indictable Crime Certificate from the Victorian Bar.

Fair Work 

FWO v MHoney Pty Ltd & Anor [2017] FCCA 811 (unled) - penalties hearing

FWO v MHoney Pty Ltd & Anor [2016] FCCA 2959 (unled) –  liabilities hearing for allegations of underpayment and failure to comply with other Fair Work laws

Fair Work Commission unfair dismissal conciliation – appeared for a former employee of an IT company. Conciliation resulted in a favourable settlement for the employee (2016)

Drafting and implementing an enterprise bargaining agreement – brief to advise a hospitality employer (2016)


Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency – brief to advise the Agency regarding prosecuting a health practitioner for a regulatory offence (2016) 

Victorian Legal Services Board – brief to examine a court file and advise the Commissioner on possible disciplinary action against solicitors (2016)

A Legal Practitioner v Legal Profession Board of Tasmania – brief to advise a solicitor in relation to a disciplinary proceeding (2015)


Eastman Inquiry (ACT) (led by Paul Willee QC and Mark Griffin QC) – appearing for the applicant, David Eastman. This six month inquiry saw the applicant's murder conviction quashed and the applicant being released from custody after having served 19 years in prison (2013 – 2014)


From 2013 to the present, Lucy has been briefed in a high profile and sensitive murder proceeding that has seen her appear led and unled on multiple ocassions before the ACT Supreme Court and ACT Court of Appeal. In connection with this proceeding, Lucy has been led by at various times by Chris Boyce SC, Mark Griffin QC, Patrick Tehan QC (with Patrick Doyle) and George Georgiou SC (with Michael Stanton). This complex matter is listed for a six month trial commencing in July 2017 in the ACT Supreme Court.
