Ian Munt specialises in administrative, property and building and construction law.  

Ian has appeared and advised in:

  • Supreme Court compulsory acquisition litigation arising from the Regional Rail Link and other infrastructure and construction projects;
  • land valuation disputes in the Supreme Court and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal concerning some of Victoria's largest port, railway and water infrastructure;
  • planning disputes, acting for both proponents and objectors;   
  • litigation under the Gambling Regulation Act, Aboriginal Heritage Act, Information Privacy Act, the Owners Corporations Act and the Water Act; and
  • leasing, real property, and building and construction proceedings.

In addition, Ian has acted for a government department in the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry and, before coming to the Bar, for the State of Victoria in the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission.

Ian was a Principal Solicitor at the Victorian Government Solicitor's Office before coming to the Bar . While there, Ian completed secondments at the Building Commission and the Department of Sustainability and Environment. Ian was awarded the VGSO’s ‘Outstanding Lawyer’ award in 2009.
