Thomas has a broad ranging commercial litigation practice, with a particular emphasis upon corporations and banking & finance related disputes.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Thomas was Associate to Justice Vickery of the Supreme Court of Victoria, and prior to that worked as an Associate at Allen & Overy in London and as a solicitor at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in Melbourne.
Thomas was admitted to the degrees of Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts, with first class honours in both Laws and Arts, at the University of Tasmania. Thomas was awarded a number of academic awards, including the Corporations Law Prize and a University Award as the top student across commercial law subjects.
After completing articles at Corrs, Thomas worked as a solicitor in the firm's litigation group, where he practised in banking, corporations and competition litigation. He also gained valuable experience completing a six month secondment as in-house counsel at Linfox Australia.
In late 2006, Thomas moved to London with the firm of Allen & Overy, working as an Associate. He initially practised in a transactional role, structuring complex cross-border lending arrangements, and then as a litigation lawyer acting for both banks and corporates in London's busy financial litigation market. Thomas returned to Australia in mid 2008 and completed an Associateship with Justice Vickery in the Supreme Court, before coming to the Bar.
Since signing the Bar Roll, Thomas has acted in a variety of commercial matters and has also delivered CLE seminars to lawyers on topics including the rule in Yerky v Jones and as part of the Commercial Bar Association's Litigation Masterclass.
Thomas is a member of the County Court, Banking & Finance Division's Users' Group and is Monitor for the Banking & Finance Section of the Victorian Commercial Bar Association.
