Marcus Duckett has been working as a lawyer for over 15 years. He has been a Barrister for 11 years. Specialising in both Family and Criminal law, Marcus regularly appears in the Magistrates', Federal Circuit, Family and County Courts.

In the Family law jurisdiction, Marcus regularly appears at Interim and Final Hearings in the Federal Circuit Court and trials in the Family Court. Marcus regularly handles matters involving both parenting and financial orders. Issues often dealt with are the fair division of assets, best interests of the children, appropriate contact time, relocation, family violence and de facto disputes.

Over the past 11 years of practising in Family Law, Marcus has represented many clients at all stages of proceedings including Conciliation Conferences, Interim Applications and Final Hearings. In addition to court appearances Marcus is able to provide both written and oral advice and draft necesary court documents such as Applications, Responses and Affidavits.

Marcus' involvement in Family law matters often commences with either applying for, or defending an Intervention Order application. His experience in both Criminal and Family law often helps clients in navigating through Intervention Order proceedings with understanding for the often serious effect an Intervention order can have in either a criminal and/or family law context.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Marcus worked as an Associate to County Court Judge Duckett OBE. Working as an Associate for eighteen months at the County Court coupled with 11 years at the Bar has given him solid experience in criminal trials, pleas and appeals in the County Court.

Marcus commenced working as a lawyer over 15 years ago at Hall & Wilcox Lawyers, a Melbourne law firm then consisting of 60 solicitors. During his two years at the firm, he had responsibility for many significant litigation matters of a predominantly personal injury nature (WorkCover). As a solicitor Marcus’ work often included appearing at court for interlocutory matters, instructing at trials and attending at conferences/mediations.

When Marcus is not at work he is generally either taking care of his two young children or coordinating tradesmen for his property interests.
