Alistair specialises in tax and revenue law. He also accepts briefs in commercial, administrative and equity matters.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Alistair was a Senior Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills, and before that at Greenwoods & HSF, having worked as a solicitor for almost 8 years.

Alistair has extensive experience advising large Australian and multinational companies, private funds, sovereign wealth, high net wealth individuals, property groups, founders and a multitude of other business entities.

Alistair’s clients operate in various sectors, including infrastructure, financial services, energy and resources, technology, and real estate.

Alistair’s experience includes providing advice on a wide range of tax issues in a variety of contexts, including:

  • audits and settlements;
  • rulings and objections;
  • tax litigation;
  • structuring;
  • inbound and outbound investment; and
  • significant transactions, including M&A, debt and equity financing deals, restructures and joint ventures.

Alistair is a Chartered Tax Adviser with The Tax Institute. In 2020, Alistair was listed in the Doyle’s Guide Tax Law Rising Stars category.

Alistair has published and presented papers on tax, including with The Tax Institute. He is the author of the ‘Tax Considerations’ chapter in Takeovers and Reconstructions in Australia (LexisNexis) and a co-author of Understanding Taxation Law 2024 (LexisNexis).

Alistair holds a Master of Laws, Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Melbourne. In 2020, Alistair was awarded the B J Shaw Law Prize for Corporate Tax B.
