Jane Treleaven (B.A., LL.B. (Mon), MCommrclLaw (Melb))

Before being called to the Bar, Jane was a Senior Associate at Herbert Geer & Rundle most recently and formerly Russell Kennedy, where she specialised in commercial litigation. Her particular focus was banking and financial services, acting for banks and other financial services providers. Her experience includes defending cases brought by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission and advising on the Commission's powers.

Since coming to the Bar, Jane has appeared on her own and with other counsel in the Supreme, County and Magistrates' Courts on both interlocutory and final hearings.

Areas of Jane's practice include:

  • insolvency and enforcement of securities
  • conversion and cheque cases
  • fraud recoveries
  • confiscation of assets
  • defamation
  • shareholder and joint venture disputes
  • property disputes including contracts of sale and leases, both commercial and retail
  • contractual disputes
  • injunctions
  • intervention orders

In 2007, Jane completed a Masters in Commercial Law at the University of Melbourne, with a particular focus on corporations and insolvency law, litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She has an interest in environmental law and is a volunteer at the Environment Defenders' Office. Jane is also Victorian Representative for Business and Professional Women Australia (BPWA).
