Michele J Brooks (née Bates) (B.A., LL.B.(Mon)) Michele was admitted to practice in 1997 and signed the Bar Roll in 2006. Prior to coming to the Bar, Michele was a Director of Harwood Andrews Lawyers in Geelong. In June 2005, she took up a position as a Senior Advisor with Wilsons Lawyers, a boutique Melbourne family law firm. Michele has practised as a solicitor exclusively in family law and associated jurisdictions since admission. She has expertise in all aspects of family law, including matters affecting the welfare of children and the rights and responsibilities of parents. She is experienced in handling all kinds of property and financial settlements, including cases involving family businesses, complex company and trust structures and superannuation splitting. Since 2000, Michele has been a member of the "Family Lawyers Expert Panel" convened by Relationships Australia (Victoria), a nationwide Mediation and Counselling service. She was a founding member of the "Intervention Order Support Scheme" piloted by Springvale Monash Legal Service Inc at the Dandenong Magistrates' Court in 1994. Michele was also a founding member of "Crimes Compensation Assistance Scheme" piloted at the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault (SECASA) in 1995. Michele has presented various family law seminars to community and professional groups and has contributed as an author to family law newspaper articles, brochures and booklets. She has also been a regular volunteer solicitor at various Community Legal Centres in Melbourne and Geelong. Michele was recently elected as a member of the New Barristers' Standing Committee (NBSC) of the Victorian Bar. Michele is available to undertake all types Court appearance work in family law and associated matters, including appearing at regional Court circuit sittings.
