He is the convenor, Life Member, and former Chairman of the Criminal Bar Association of Victoria; a member of the Organising Committee, Australian Criminal Lawyers' Association; and delivered a paper entitled "Reforming the Law of Murder" at the Reform of the Criminal Law Conference, Lincoln's Inn in 1987. He chaired the Organising Committees of both the Sixth International Criminal Law Congress in 1996 and the Eighth International Criminal Law Congress in 2002, both of which were conducted in Melbourne.
