Profile

Christine commenced conciliating family disputes in 1989. She became an accredited mediator in the Family Court of Australia in 1995 and now specialises in Family Law Mediation as a nationally accredited mediator.

Christine draws on her experience as a Mediator, Barrister, Court Registrar, Member of a Federal Appellate Tribunal and Solicitor, to assist in family dispute resolution.

Parallel with her legal work, Christine has been involved in a variety of community service activities, including in Local Government as an elected Mayor and Councillor. Currently, Christine is a member of the Board of Switchboard (Victoria) Inc.

Barrister

As Counsel, Christine gained extensive experience in the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court, the Magistrates' Court of Victoria and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

She advised and advocated for parties and the Independent Childrens' Lawyer in trials, interim contested matters, enforcement proceedings, conciliations and mediations, in all types of disputes.

Mediator

Christine was appointed by the Chief Justice of the Family Court to the position of Court Mediator in 1995. This mediation work was a particular focus of her role as a Deputy Registrar of the Court. Christine participated in the establishment of the Family Court Mediation Service where she developed expertise and experience mediating disputes concerning children, financial and property matters. This dispute resolution practice extended her experience to include voluntary mediation, in addition to Court-mandated conciliation.

Christine mediated disputes concerning Child Support assessments in mandated matters before the Social Security Appeals Tribunal.

Christine is an experienced private mediator in Family Law disputes concerning property, financial matters and parenting matters.

Family Court of Australia Registrar

Christine was appointed as a Deputy Registrar in the Melbourne Registry in 1989.

Christine exercised delegated quasi-judicial powers and statutory powers. She mediated and conciliated financial and property disputes, advised on practice and procedure in Court proceedings and collaborated with Family Consultants in managing and mediating complex parenting disputes. She also exercised the powers of the Appeals Registrar and assessed costs disputes as an officer of the Court.

Member of Social Security Appeals Tribunal

Christine was appointed as a full-time member of the Social Security Appeals Tribunal in 2008.

Christine adjudicated matters in each of the Tribunal's federal jurisdictions, in the Melbourne and Brisbane registries. This included adjudicating adversarial appeal proceedings in Child Support disputes and conducting merits reviews of social security administrative decisions.

Solicitor

Christine's practice as a Family Law solicitor gave her experience in advising, negotiating and preparing for trials in parenting, property and financial disputes, in the matrimonial and de facto jurisdictions.

Her legal practice also included Town Planning and Local Government Law in Victoria and South Australia.
