Profile

Ellen has a broad commercial and public law practice with particular expertise in State and Federal taxation.

Ellen's taxation expertise extends to matters concerning income tax, GST, stamp duty, payroll tax and land tax and she is available to advise and appear in these areas.

Immediately before coming to the Bar, Ellen was employed at the Victorian State Revenue Office where she acted for the Commissioner at various stages of the audit and dispute resolution process. During this time she developed particular expertise in State taxes as well as trusts, property law, administrative law and the determination of more complex taxation objections.  She has also acted and appeared for the Federal Commissioner of Taxation in relation to corporate and personal insolvency matters.

Ellen also has extensive experience in the private sector as a solicitor specialising in taxation where she provided advice, structured transactions, reviewed and drafted transaction documents and applied for and negotiated rulings with the SRO and ATO. She was also a member of the team acting for a client in a transfer pricing dispute with the ATO in the Federal Court of Australia.

Ellen holds Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Melbourne as well as a Bachelor of Computing degree from Monash University.

Ellen read with Andrew Broadfoot and her senior mentor is Fiona McLeod SC.
