Robert A Niemann is an experienced tax barrister having practiced at the Victorian Bar since 2003. Robert has been practising for more than 15 years and specialises in corporate income tax, stamp duty and the law of trusts.

Robert is well versed in providing commercial corporate reconstruction and mergers and acquisitions taxation advice having worked in the Tax Group at Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks in Melbourne (now Allens Arthur Robinson) and in Corporate Tax at Arthur Anderson (now Ernst & Young) prior to coming to the Bar.

He also is experienced in defending taxpayers in ruling applications, objections against assessment and in the tribunals and the Federal Court. Having also practiced on commercial matters, Robert brings an overtly commercial perspective to his taxation advisory.

Robert has advised taxpayerson reforms in the areas taxation treatment gains and losses on cross border transactions, the dividend imputation system and liability to Capital Gains Tax. He provides both real time commercial advice and defends taxpayers in contentious and litigious matters against both the Australian Taxation Office and the State Revenue Offices.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bacherlor of Jurisprudence, for which he was a recipient of the Supreme Court Exhibition,from Monash University.

Robert also has advised on the establishment, reconstruction and operation public offer superannuation and managed investment funds. He was the author of the first chapters on superannuation published in the Laws of Australia and has beem a sessional lecturer at Monash University.
