Elspeth Strong (M.A., LL.B. (Hons.)) did articles with Corrs, Pavey, Whiting & Byrne in 1986 and was admitted in Victoria in 1987.
From 1987-89 she was the Associate to Justice McGarvie in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
She then read with Maurice Phipps QC (now F.M.) and signed the Bar Roll in May 1989.
From 1989-91 she was a part-time Senior Tutor in Intellectual Property in the Faculty of Law at the University of Melbourne.  She was also a reporter for the Victorian Reports and the Victorian Administrative Reports.
From 1991-94 she was the first author and responsible for the updating of the Chapter Dismissal without Trial in Court Forms, Precedents and Pleadings (Butterworths).
Her practice is largely in the Federal Court, both in Victoria and interstate (usually Sydney or Hobart) although she also appears in State Courts (usually the Supreme Court of Victoria) and at hearings before Tribunals such as VCAT or within IP Australia (which incorporates the Patents, Designs and Trade Marks Offices).
Elspeth Strong has appeared in intellectual property proceedings across the range of patent, trade mark, copyright, designs, misleading and deceptive conduct, unconscionable conduct and passing off actions.
She has appeared for the applicant in numerous applications for interlocutory injunctions including Anton Piller Orders in both the Federal and the Supreme Court.
Elspeth Strong has appeared often for the ACCC in matters under both Part IV and Part V of the Trade Practices Act.  She also appears regularly for the applicant in intellectual property matters alleging counterfeiting of well known trade marks associated with the luxury goods industry.  In addition she has appeared in general commercial matters including contract claims.
Elspeth Strong has been a Victorian Bar Accredited Mediator since 1995. She has been a Court (or private) appointed mediator (or counsel appearing for a party) in numerous State and Federal Court mediations in general commercial disputes including intellectual property, liquidator's action, insurance, superannuation trust, professional negligence, employment and  defamation matters.
She was appointed a Conciliator by the Registrar of the Legal Profession Tribunal under the Legal Practice Act 1996 (Vic) for a 5 year term from 1 November 2000.
Elspeth Strong was appointed a Chairperson of the Disciplinary Appeal Boards (DAB)under the Teaching Service Act 1981 (Vic) for a 5 year term from May 2005.

She is a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand Inc.
