Russ Hammill was admitted to practice in 2001 and signed the Bar Roll in 2003.

He has been involved with the practice of criminal law in many different capacities for over 25 years and is a Victorial Legal Aid Criminal Trial Preferred barrister.  

His principal practice area is criminal trial work in the County and Supreme Court and all matters regarding the criminal law and police charges in the Magistrates' Court -  including Magistrates' Court Intervention Orders.

Russ has a broad knowledge of the criminal law and its processes, as well as experience in coronial hearings/inquests and prosecutions and family law matters. He also has experience in the extradition laws and procedures as they apply from state to state, liquor licensing and gaming legislation.

Russ has also developed over many years a solid family law practice stemming largely from his long involvement with the burgeoning area of domestic violence and intervention orders.   His ability to bring  a honed skill for critical analyisis of the often false allegations made by one party against another in a family dispute environment is highly regarded and his many years as trial counsel makes him an extremely capable cross-examiner.
